Le tout début du mythe...

Le mot Beatles est la contraction de beat (rythme) et beetles (scarabées). C'est Stuart Sutcliffe, alors membre du groupe, qui avait imaginé ce nom, en réponse aux Crickets, le groupe de Buddy Holly.

En 1957, Paul McCartney assiste à un concert des Quarrymen.
A la pause, il s'approche du leader, John Lennon et lui montre de quelle manière il joue «Be Bop A Lula» à la guitare. Lennon, impressionné, demande à McCartney d'intégrer le groupe.
Plusieurs mois, plusieurs changements de noms et plusieurs coups de sang de Lennon plus tard, c'est au tour de George Harrison, un ami de Paul McCartney, de devenir le guitariste solo des Silver Beatles.
Le batteur est encore Pete Best, remplacé au début des années soixante par Richard Starkey dit Ringo Starr.
Ce genre d'histoire arrive probablement chaque semaine dans chaque lycée.
La différence, c'est que ces quatre garçons là ont inventé la pop, de ses balbutiements jusqu'à la maturité, en une vertigineuse accélération de l'Histoire.
